Tunneling and GeoTech

Our geotechnical and tunneling solutions are designed to ensure stability and safety in challenging underground environments. Covering a wide range of applications including excavation support, slope stabilization, rock reinforcement and monitoring, these systems enable efficient and reliable operations. By combining proven support technologies with advanced monitoring and control, they help manage ground conditions, reduce risks and optimize performance throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Tunneling

Radial bolts

Radial bolts provide reliable ground support by reinforcing the rock around the tunnel profile. Together with shotcrete and other primary support measures, they create a strong, stable system that enhances safety and supports long-term tunnel stability.

Pre-support

Pre-support systems provide early ground reinforcement ahead of the tunnel face, helping to create safer and more controlled excavation conditions. Methods such as forepoling, face bolts, spiles, and pipe umbrella systems support weak or unstable ground, reduce deformation, and enable more efficient tunnelling progress.

Injection resins and foams

Injection resins and foams are designed for tunneling and geotechnical applications, providing effective sealing, stabilization, and reinforcement in complex ground conditions. Tailored formulations ensure controlled injection, reliable performance, and high safety standards even in water-bearing or high-pressure environments.

Passive support

Passive support solutions provide reliable tunnel stability by allowing controlled interaction with the surrounding ground. Steel ribs, lattice girders, LSC™ elements, and BULLFLEX systems work together to manage loads, accommodate deformation, and ensure safe, resilient tunnel construction in challenging geological conditions.

GeoTech

Soil nails

Soil nailing is a passive reinforcement method that stabilizes slopes, retaining walls, and underground excavations. Our self-drilling nails are grouted during or after installation, providing efficient and reliable support against ground movement in challenging conditions.

Ground anchors

Ground anchor systems are active load-bearing systems used in geotechnical engineering to stabilize retaining walls, slopes, and excavations. Unlike passive systems, they are prestressed after installation, introducing force into the structure in advance to minimize deformation and ensure controlled load transfer into stable ground layers.

Micropiles

Sandvik micropiles are designed for deep foundations, refurbishment and structural reinforcement. Installed by cased drilling, they transfer loads mainly through grout-activated skin friction and can be adapted with suitable corrosion protection for temporary or permanent applications.

Equipment and monitoring

Geotechnical conditions are complex and constantly evolving, requiring reliable data and trusted expertise. Integrated equipment, in-house innovation, and deep technical know-how enable accurate monitoring, help reduce risk, and support safe, confident decision-making in demanding underground environments.

Solid Ground - Customer stories

Overcoming loose ground with smart support

In South Tyrol, northern Italy, the Bronzolo Bypass Tunnel is the final step in a decades-long project to divert heavy traffic from the SS12 “Brennerstaatsstraße” (one of Italy’s most historically significant north–south corridors) in the section south of Bolzano, between San Giacomo and Bronzolo. Once completed, it will bring lasting relief to the community of Bronzolo.
