Sandvik expands service and training capabilities to support mining growth in Argentina
Sandvik has inaugurated a new service and training center in San Juan, Argentina, strengthening its ability to support mining customers locally while developing the technical skills needed by the region's growing mining industry.
The new 2,000-square-meter center consolidates technical service support, equipment diagnostics, customer training, simulator-based learning and technology demonstrations at a single location. It is intended to support mining customers in San Juan and across the wider region, where demand is growing for local expertise and support for increasingly advanced mining operations.
The center will provide technical assistance, diagnostics, knowledge transfer and training for both surface and underground equipment. By giving customers faster access to Sandvik specialists and training closer to their operations, the center will strengthen local support and help customers operate and maintain their equipment safely and effectively.
“Our mining customers increasingly need technical support and skills development close to their operations,” said Ricardo Pachon, Vice President, Andean and South Cone, Sandvik Mining. “By bringing service expertise and training together in San Juan, we can respond more effectively today while helping build the capabilities needed for the region’s continued mining development.”
The facility will support Sandvik technologies across surface drilling, underground drilling and loading and hauling. Training will also cover automation, digitalization and other technologies shaping the future of mining.
Investment in technical skills
Training is a central part of the new facility. Programs will be available for Sandvik employees, customer technicians and equipment operators, as well as students through educational initiatives. Planned activities include technical workshops, operator training using simulators, equipment and technology demonstrations, and broader industry knowledge sharing.
“Advanced mining technologies deliver their full value only when people have the skills to operate and maintain them effectively,” Pachon said. “Developing that capability locally will help customers adopt new technologies with confidence while building a stronger technical workforce for the future.”
Collaboration with the National University of San Juan
Sandvik has also signed a framework agreement with the National University of San Juan to strengthen links between industry and education. The collaboration will focus on technical training, research, knowledge sharing and student engagement, with the longer-term aim of improving employability and developing mining and engineering skills in the region.
Planned activities include university open days, technology demonstrations and simulator-based training. Students will also be given access to selected technical information and software tools, while Sandvik specialists will contribute to educational activities.
The agreement is intended to increase students’ exposure to advanced mining technologies and create closer collaboration among the university, industry and government as San Juan’s mining sector develops.
The center’s inauguration on September 16 brought together customers, mining industry stakeholders, government and university representatives and Sandvik leaders.
