Sandvik to supply 19 Toro® trucks, loaders to Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex

Sandvik has received an order from Kamoa Copper S.A. to supply 19 Toro® trucks and loaders to the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex, a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines and Zijin Mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The order expands one of the world’s largest underground Sandvik fleets at a mine where Sandvik loaders and trucks have been operating successfully since 2019.

Sandvik will deliver 12 Toro® TH663i trucks and seven Toro® LH621i loaders, two of which will be equipped with AutoMine®. The order was booked in Q3. The first four trucks are expected to arrive in Q4 2026, followed by 13 units in Q1 2027 and the final two loaders in Q3 2027.

Kamoa Copper ordered three additional AutoMine® Lite systems in May to support the fleet. Together with the mine’s existing AutoMine® Lite installation, the new systems will expand Kamoa-Kakula’s autonomous production capability to four AutoMine® Lite systems, supporting the efficient deployment of the new equipment.

Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex is a long-life, high-grade underground mining operation. The copper production guidance has been set to 290,000 to 310,000 metric tons in 2026 and is targeting annual production of approximately 500,000 metric tons from 2028.

Sandvik’s highest-capacity intelligent load and haul equipment has been operating at Kamoa since 2019. With this latest order, the active Sandvik fleet at Kamoa-Kakula will exceed 100 underground trucks, loaders and drills, reflecting the mine’s continued confidence in Sandvik equipment, technology and on-site support.

“Our decision to reinvest in Sandvik equipment is based on years of proven operational performance at Kamoa-Kakula,” said Annebel Oosthuizen, Managing Director at Kamoa Copper S.A. “The trucks and loaders have consistently delivered the availability, productivity and reliability we need to support one of the world’s leading underground copper operations. Sandvik equipment gives us confidence that we can maintain safer, efficient and predictable production while supporting our long-term plans.”

Sandvik established its operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2019 to support Kamoa-Kakula. The company has a dedicated Expert On Site technical support team at the mine and operates a site-based vendor-managed inventory facility to help maximize equipment availability and productivity.
