LSC™ Elements

Lining Stress Controllers (LSC™) are ductile support elements designed to control stress-induced deformations in weak ground during tunneling.
Installed in longitudinal construction joints of the primary tunnel lining, LSC™ composite elements absorb ground movements and relieve stresses before structural damage occurs.

System description

LSC™ Elements are designed with a lower load-bearing resistance compared to the primary tunnel lining, allowing them to absorb substantial deformations before the lining reaches critical stress levels.
Each system consists of multiple yielding elements placed between robust base plates, which fix the components in position and transfer the load uniformly to the lining. The yielding elements are factory-engineered with a controlled imperfection to initiate predictable deformation under excessive loading.

System components

By selecting the optimal type and number of LSC™ compression bodies, the supporting characteristics—such as force–shortening behavior—can be precisely adapted to specific project requirements. This ensures effective load management, controlled stress release, and maximum lining protection.
