Sandvik launches the HPA20 automatic injection pump, delivering new levels of flexibility, quality and safety in underground resin injection

Sandvik is introducing the HPA20 automatic injection pump, a next-generation solution designed to significantly improve the precision, productivity and safety of resin-based ground support in hard-rock mining and civil engineering.

The HPA20—short for Hydraulic Power Automatic—combines intelligent automation with a flexible system architecture that allows operators to carry out both manual controlled and fully automatic injection of two component silicate and polyurethane resins. The unit can operate as a stand-alone system or be integrated directly with underground equipment, supported either by onboard hydraulics or an optional auxiliary hydraulic power pack. This flexibility makes the HPA20 suitable for a wide spectrum of underground operations, ranging from rock bolting and anchoring to ground consolidation and stabilization. The solution is especially suitable for customers working with Sandvik drill rigs that cannot accommodate onboard bulk resin systems.

At the heart of the HPA20 is an intelligent, self-calibrating control system that continuously ensures the correct mixing ratio and maintains precise control of pressure, flow and volume. Capable of delivering up to 200 bar of resin pressure and up to 10 liters per minute per component, the pump provides consistent and reliable injection performance. In automatic mode, the system logs detailed information from each injection session, including mixing ratios, pressures, flows, actual and target volumes as well as cumulative pumped resin. These data sets can be exported via USB and integrated into customer QA/QC workflows, supporting high documentation standards that are increasingly required in modern ground support processes.

Operator safety is a central design focus. The HPA20 features a fully sealed 2 × 300-liter resin container system that eliminates operator exposure during filling and injection. Automatic and manual flushing options prevent blockages and reduce operator errors, while clearly separated operator and supervisor user levels ensure controlled access to key functions.

The pump’s technical specifications further underline its robustness and flexibility: several options for lifting and transportation, an operating temperature range of 10°C to 45°C and an overall unit weight of 1,275 kg. Its compact dimensions—approximately 2.8 × 1.4 × 1.6 meters—facilitate easy placement in underground environments. When additional hydraulic capacity is needed, an optional power pack with a 22 kW motor and 60 liter tank ensures reliable operation across challenging site conditions.

According to Anssi Kouhia, Product Manager Ground Support at Sandvik, the introduction of the HPA20 automatic injection pump marks an important step forward in automated resin injection technology. He emphasizes that the pump’s unique combination of flexibility, intelligent monitoring and enhanced safety features provides mining and civil engineering customers with an efficient and flexible alternative to manual injections.
