Sandvik RD1700 rock drill series delivers improved efficiency, power

Engineered for unmatched performance and efficiency, the new Sandvik RD1700 rock drill series delivers exceptional results in a variety of challenging drilling conditions

The new series is 15 percent more efficient than predecessor Sandvik HL1560 and offers powerful performance in three size classes for both surface and underground drills. Sandvik RD1725, Sandvik RD1735 and Sandvik RD1740 cover a power range of 25-40 kilowatts, ensuring an optimal fit for each drilling operation. The innovative design makes drilling effortless even in the most challenging rock conditions, delivering high-quality results while increasing productivity.

The series introduces features designed to optimize performance and reduce operational downtime, including a new active stabilizer that optimizes striking point to ensure drilling ease and quality. The self-adjusting damping system requires no external control, providing straighter holes, improved accuracy and extended tool life.

A new lightweight flushing head weighs only 83.8 pounds (38 kilograms) – half of predecessor Sandvik HL1560 – and makes shank changes 50 percent faster, reducing handling time and improving safety.

Early adopters of the new Sandvik RD1700 rock drill series have expressed high satisfaction with performance and efficiency. Aaron Rankine, General Manager of Operational Performance at Barminco, said switching from Sandvik HL1560 to Sandvik RD1735 has resulted in a 25 percent increase in penetration rate. “We've also observed improvements in hole accuracy and tool lifespan, significantly reducing our drilling costs,” Rankine said.

The new series is easily retrofittable to existing fleet. With a service interval of 500 percussion hours and compatibility with preferred tools such as T51, ST58, GT60, ST68, and the new CT67, Sandvik RD1700 series rock drills are designed for seamless integration and long-term reliability.

"Our customers are always seeking ways to improve productivity, quality, safety and drilling costs,” said Jukka Siltanen, Product Line Manager, Rock Drills at Sandvik. “With the new RD1700 rock drill series, we've successfully addressed all of these needs.”
